The events calendar provides information on upcoming conferences and seminars which address issues related to innovative surface transportation finance. The events are organized chronologically by sponsoring agency. When available, InnovativeFinance.org has also provided brief overviews of the content of the event, as well as contact information and a hyperlink to the sponsoring agency's Website. Certain events are very specialized and focus in depth on niche issues. Others are much more broad - annual meetings of large industry organizations, for example - and may only offer a small number of sessions or individual presentations on innovative transportation finance.

National Conference on Transportation and Economic Development

TED 2006, which is sponsored by TRB, the Federal Reserve Banks of St. Louis and the FHWA, among others will address both regional and national transportation issues in economic development. The Transportation and Logistics Program of Institute for Economic Advancement at University of Arkansas at Little Rock and the TRB Committee ADD-10 (formerly called TRB committee A1A06) are to organize TED 2006. The Peabody Hotel of Little Rock will be the site of the conference.

TED2006 will cover national and international issues but will also have special sessions to discuss the perspectives and analysis of transportation issues in the Southwest and Southeast regions. These sessions will cover NAFTA issues, and other related border, trade and transportation issues. This region is home to logistics giants such as Wal-Mart based in Bentonville, AR and FedEx based in Memphis, TN.


 

IRF Geneva/ Brussels Annual Meeting and European Regional Conference

2006 Southern Transportation Finance Conference

The Georgia Department of Transportation is please to host the 2006 Southern Transportation Finance Conference to be held in Savannah, Georgia on June 11-14, 2006.  All State DOTs, FHWA and private sector representatives are invited to participate in the conference.  Participants will discuss:

  • challenges of creating funding stability for programs and projects;
  • using flexibility in program delivery to maximize the “bang for the buck”;
  • applying innovations in project and program finance; and,
  • fulfilling responsibilities to the taxpayers through stewardship and oversight.

The agenda for the conference will include multiple tracks of break-out sessions appealing to professionals in the policy, program and project delivery areas as well as to financial management and accounting professionals. Joint plenary sessions will provide the opportunity to bring together attendees to explore the convergence of issues important to both groups, in particular as related to stewardship and oversight.

First International Conference on Funding Transportation Infrastructure

Organized by the Institute of Public Economics at the University of Alberta, this conference will focus on the relationship between pricing of transportation infrastructure and investments in North America and Europe. It will consider institutional mechanisms such as earmarking of revenues, transportation funds, Public Private Partnerships, and inter-government relationships that facilitate (or potentially impede) efficient pricing and investment decisions for transportation infrastructure. The conference is targeted at researchers, industry practitioners and policymakers. The topic of the conference is inter-disciplinary, and individuals from all backgrounds (economics, political science, public administration, engineering, etc.) are invited. Theoretical, empirical/case-study and policy-oriented contributions are all welcome.  Paper abstracts of approximately 500 words are due by December 16, 2006. Please send abstracts to Dawn Bissett dbissett@ualberta.ca , phone: 780- 492-6670.  Subject to acceptance (by January 13), final papers are due by Friday, June 16, 2006. Plans for refereed proceedings on CD and/or in book form will be conveyed in early 2006. Questions concerning the conference should be addressed to Dawn Bissett or the conference organizers.
